The Golden Spikes Hurricanes 12U finished their weekend in championship style, shutting out Stampede 12U by a score of 6–0 on Sunday to claim the NCS April Fools Tournament title. Behind dominant pitching, steady defense, and timely hitting, the Hurricanes once again showed why they’re one of the toughest teams in the region.
Mikey P. set the tone from the first pitch, striking out 10 batters over six innings while allowing just four hits and one walk. His command and poise on the mound kept Stampede’s offense in check all game long.
The Hurricanes’ offense broke through in the second inning. An error opened the door, then Trace L. roped a triple down the right-field line and Mikey P. added a sacrifice fly to bring home another. In the third, Finn C. extended the lead with a single to make it 5–0, giving Golden Spikes a comfortable cushion.
At the plate, Finn C. led the way, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Weston R. and Trace L. also had two-hit days, while Matt G. added a run-scoring single. The Hurricanes stayed disciplined throughout the lineup, consistently putting runners on base and applying pressure.
Defensively, Golden Spikes was flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play. Bennett V. anchored the defense with 10 chances handled cleanly, helping the Hurricanes lock down the shutout.
Stampede battled, with Kayde G. providing two hits from the lower half of the order and the team turning two double plays, but they couldn’t overcome the Hurricanes’ all-around performance.
