Golden Spikes 12U Toreros Go Undefeated to Win RCTB Memorial Day Classic Championship

The Golden Spikes 12U Toreros put together a championship weekend that had everything you want to see from a competitive travel baseball team: power at the plate, clean defense, strong pitching, and the ability to keep pressure on opponents from the first inning through the final out.

Competing in the RCTB Memorial Day Classic, the Toreros went undefeated all weekend and claimed the championship with four straight wins. From Elk Grove to Cosumnes Oaks, Golden Spikes showed why this 12U group continues to be one of the most exciting youth baseball teams in the Sacramento and Placer County area.

This was not a weekend built on one big swing or one dominant performance.

It was a full-team run.

Different players stepped up in different games. The offense hit for power, produced with runners on, and kept innings alive. The pitching staff controlled tempo. The defense stayed locked in, finishing multiple games without a single error.

And by the end of the tournament, the Toreros had made one thing clear: they came to win.

Power Sets the Tone Against SSC Patereau

The Toreros opened the weekend against SSC Patereau 12U and immediately showed what kind of tournament this was going to be.

Golden Spikes jumped ahead in the bottom of the first behind two massive swings. Dominic A launched a home run to center field, driving in three runs and giving the Toreros early control. Then Zachary K added to the momentum with one of his biggest games of the season.

Zachary hit two home runs and drove in five runs as Golden Spikes rolled to an 8–0 win. His first home run came in the opening inning, and his second was a grand slam to center field in the third, putting the game firmly out of reach.

While the offense delivered the fireworks, the pitching staff took care of the rest. Eli P earned the win, throwing three shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. Maddux K followed with a scoreless inning in relief, and the defense played clean baseball behind them with zero errors.

It was a sharp, confident start to the tournament, and it gave the Toreros momentum they never gave back.

Yggy’s Big Day Fuels a Win Over BPA Black

The next matchup came against BPA Black 12U, listed initially as TBD, and Golden Spikes once again answered early offense from the opponent with an even bigger response.

BPA Black scored first in the top of the opening inning, but the Toreros flipped the game in the bottom half with six runs on six hits. Chuck C delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a two-run home run to center field, and from there, the lineup kept rolling.

The second inning belonged to Yggy V.

After Dominic A singled in a run, Yggy stepped in and blasted a grand slam to center field, extending the Toreros’ lead to 11–2. He was not done. In the third inning, Yggy singled again to bring in two more runs, finishing with six RBIs on three hits.

Golden Spikes won 16–4, collecting 16 hits as a team. Yggy and Chuck each finished with three hits, while Andrew T, Zachary K, and Brody E added multiple hits of their own. Maddux K earned the win on the mound, and Chuck added a scoreless inning in relief.

The Toreros also turned two double plays, showing that their defense was just as ready as their offense.

Through two games, Golden Spikes had already scored 24 runs.

A Nine-Run First Inning Pushes the Toreros Past BPA Black Again

Sunday brought another matchup with BPA Black 12U, and the Toreros made sure there was no slow start.

Golden Spikes scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 12–3 win at Cosumnes Oaks High School. Yggy V opened the scoring wave with a two-run double, and Zachary K followed with a three-run home run to left field. Jack B singled in another run, while Brody E and Colin S added productive outs to keep the inning moving.

By the end of the first, the Toreros had built the kind of lead that puts immediate pressure on an opponent.

Pete B added more power in the second inning with a two-run home run to center field, and Dominic A brought home another run in the third with a fielder’s choice. Andrew T and Pete B each collected two hits, while Zachary drove in three runs from the middle of the lineup.

On the mound, Zachary K earned the win, throwing four innings while striking out five and walking just one. The defense was once again flawless, finishing the game with zero errors.

This win pushed the Toreros into the championship game with a perfect record and a lineup that looked dangerous from top to bottom.

Dominic Powers the Championship Win Over Cal Valley Shuckers

In the championship game against Cal Valley Shuckers 12U Cooperstown, the Toreros saved another powerful performance for the final stage.

Cal Valley scored first in the top of the opening inning, but Golden Spikes responded immediately. Dominic A launched a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first, giving the Toreros a 3–1 lead after Andrew T added a run with a groundout.

Then came the second inning, where the Golden Spikes offense erupted again.

Chuck C singled in a run, Dominic homered for the second time in the game, Yggy V followed with a solo home run to right field, and Zachary K added another solo shot to left. In one inning, the Toreros stacked together four major run-producing swings and pushed the lead to 8–1.

The third inning brought even more pressure, with RBI singles from Chuck, Dominic, Yggy, and Pete B extending the lead further. Golden Spikes went on to win 12–3, securing the RCTB Memorial Day Classic Championship.

Dominic finished with two home runs and four RBIs, leading the championship-game offense. Yggy and Dominic each collected three hits, while Chuck and Zachary added multiple hits. Pete B earned the win on the mound, and Yggy closed with a scoreless inning in relief, striking out three.

Once again, the Toreros played error-free baseball.

An Undefeated Championship Weekend

The Golden Spikes 12U Toreros finished the RCTB Memorial Day Classic undefeated, winning all four games and doing it with a mix of power, pitching, and defensive consistency.

Across the tournament, the Toreros scored 48 runs and allowed just 10. They hit home runs in key moments, created big innings early, and kept pressure on every opponent they faced. Zachary K, Dominic A, Yggy V, Chuck C, Pete B, Eli P, Maddux K, Andrew T, Brody E, Colin S, and the rest of the lineup all played a role in a weekend where the team never let momentum drift away for long.

What stood out most was how complete the run felt.

The Toreros won with early offense. They won with clean defense. They won behind strong pitching starts and reliable relief appearances. They won by putting the ball in play, driving the ball for power, and making teams defend every inning.

For a 12U travel baseball team out of Loomis, California, competing in the Sacramento and Placer County youth baseball scene, this championship was another strong statement for the Golden Spikes program.

Golden Spikes Baseball Academy, based in Loomis, CA, serves baseball families throughout Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Elk Grove, and the greater Placer County area. The academy focuses on developing complete baseball players through competitive travel teams, skill development, baseball IQ, and coaching that prepares athletes to compete the right way.

The Golden Spikes 12U Toreros showed all of that during the RCTB Memorial Day Classic.

They were powerful.

They were composed.

They were undefeated.

And now, after ending their regular season as champions, they head toward Cooperstown with momentum this June.
