Golden Spikes 10U Huskies Close Their Season with Finalist Finish at RCTB Memorial Day Classic

The Golden Spikes 10U Huskies closed out their 10U season with one more competitive tournament weekend, taking the #1 seed after Saturday pool play and finishing as finalists at the RCTB Memorial Day Classic.

It was the kind of weekend that showed both sides of tournament baseball. On Saturday, the Huskies looked sharp, balanced, and in control. They handled pressure in a tight opening game, then exploded offensively in game two to secure the top seed heading into Sunday. In the championship game, they battled through another tight matchup with Laguna Purple 10U, coming up just short in an 8–6 finalist finish.

For a team out of Golden Spikes Baseball Academy in Loomis, California, competing in the Sacramento and Placer County youth travel baseball scene, it was a fitting end to a season filled with growth, grit, and competitive development.

Saturday Starts with a Battle Against Laguna Purple

The Huskies opened pool play against Laguna Purple 10U 2026, and from the start, it had the feel of a game that would come down to execution.

Laguna struck first in the opening inning, but Golden Spikes responded immediately in the bottom half. Brayden S and Lucas S delivered key singles to help the Huskies take a 3–1 lead, giving the dugout early momentum.

Laguna answered in the second, using a groundout and a defensive miscue to move back in front, 4–3. From there, the game settled into a tighter rhythm. Tynan A started on the mound for Golden Spikes, allowing four runs but none earned over two innings, and Vinny G came in from the bullpen to steady the game completely.

Vinny delivered three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two and walking none. That outing gave the Huskies time to find one more offensive answer.

In the bottom of the fifth, Vinny came through again—this time at the plate. After working deep into the at-bat, he doubled to center field on the seventh pitch, bringing home the tying run and helping Golden Spikes secure a 4–4 tie.

Brayden led the offense with two RBIs, while Quinn F, Dax H, Jack H, Lucas, Brayden, and Vinny each collected a hit. The Huskies also stayed active on the bases, stealing eight bags as a team, with Flynn D swiping two.

It was not a win on paper, but it was the kind of game that matters in pool play: the Huskies stayed in it, adjusted, and found a way to avoid the loss.

Big Second Inning Locks Up the Top Seed

If game one was about battling through a tight matchup, game two showed what the Huskies can do when the lineup gets rolling.

Against Swing Hard Bulldogs 10U, Golden Spikes jumped ahead early and never looked back, winning 16–0 behind a dominant offensive performance and shutout pitching.

The Huskies scored in the first inning with a steady stream of contact from the lineup. Brayden singled to center, Lucas added a hit, Caden B singled to center, Grant L drove a ball down the right field line, Vinny contributed with a productive double play ball, and Quinn grounded out to bring in another run.

Then came the second inning.

Golden Spikes scored 10 runs in the frame, turning the game into a statement win. Gage S singled in two runs, Brayden worked an RBI walk, Lucas singled in two more, Dax H drew a run-scoring walk, and Quinn added another RBI walk. The Huskies combined patience with hard contact, forcing Swing Hard to defend every pitch.

Lucas led the team with three RBIs and finished 2-for-2, while Gage, Caden, and Lucas each collected two hits. Golden Spikes also drew seven walks and stole eight bases, with Gage stealing three.

On the mound, Dax started the game with a scoreless inning, and Brayden followed with two dominant innings in relief. Brayden struck out six while allowing just one hit, helping complete the shutout. Defensively, the Huskies played clean baseball with zero errors, and Tynan A handled seven chances in the field.

The win pushed Golden Spikes to the #1 seed after pool play, sending the Huskies into Sunday with momentum and confidence.

Championship Game Rematch

Sunday brought a rematch with Laguna Purple 10U 2026, this time with the championship on the line.

Laguna scored first in the top of the opening inning, but just like Saturday, the Huskies answered quickly. In the bottom of the first, Golden Spikes put together one of its best early innings of the game. Tynan tripled to bring in a run, Lucas singled in another, and Vinny delivered a two-run single to help the Huskies take a 4–1 lead.

Laguna battled back, eventually taking the lead in the third after a string of productive at-bats. The game stayed close, with both teams trading pressure and momentum.

In the bottom of the fifth, Quinn grounded out to bring in the tying run, making it 6–6 and giving Golden Spikes one more push late. But in the top of the sixth, Laguna broke the tie with a sacrifice fly and added another run on a walk, moving ahead 8–6.

The Huskies kept fighting, but the comeback came up just short.

Vinny led Golden Spikes offensively with two RBIs from the number seven spot and finished 2-for-2, continuing his strong weekend at the plate. The Huskies had chances, competed through the final inning, and finished the tournament as finalists after a hard-fought 8–6 championship game.

A Strong Finish to the 10U Season

The RCTB Memorial Day Classic was more than another tournament. For the Golden Spikes 10U Huskies, it marked the end of their 10U season.

They finished the weekend as finalists, but the full story was bigger than the championship game. The Huskies earned the #1 seed in pool play, showed offensive depth, played clean defense in key moments, and continued to show the growth that has been building all season.

From Vinny’s clutch double in the Saturday tie to Brayden’s dominant relief outing against Swing Hard, from Lucas driving in runs to Gage creating havoc on the bases, the weekend had contributions from all over the roster.

That has been one of the defining pieces of this group: different players stepping up in different moments.

For families searching for competitive 10U travel baseball in Loomis, Rocklin, Roseville, Lincoln, Granite Bay, Sacramento, and the Placer County area, weekends like this show the kind of development Golden Spikes Baseball Academy continues to focus on. The academy builds players through competitive tournament experience, baseball IQ, skill development, and team-first coaching that prepares athletes to grow year after year.

The Huskies may have closed the weekend as finalists, but they also closed the chapter on their 10U season with momentum, experience, and plenty to be proud of.

Next stop: fall baseball.

The Golden Spikes Huskies will be back in the fall as 11U, ready for the next level, the next challenge, and the next season of growth.
