The Golden Spikes Hurricanes 12U closed their tournament on a high note, rallying past the Moraga Mavericks 12U for a 5–3 win at Lambrecht Sports Complex to claim the championship. It was a game that tested their resilience early but ultimately showcased their ability to perform under pressure.
The Mavericks opened strong in the bottom of the first, pushing across three runs thanks to a fielder’s choice and a two-run single from Will A. The Hurricanes kept their composure, leaning on steady pitching and patience at the plate to stay within striking distance.
That patience paid off in the top of the sixth. With runners on base, Mikey P. came through with a clutch double that brought home two runs and tied the game. Moments later, Quinn D. singled to put the Hurricanes ahead. When the inning ended, Golden Spikes had taken a 5–3 lead — one they would carry to the final out.
On the mound, Mikey P. delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just four hits and three runs while striking out seven across six innings. His steady performance gave the Hurricanes the chance to rally and finish strong. Offensively, it was a balanced attack as seven players recorded hits, with Jax M. and Mikey P. each driving in two runs. The team’s patience at the plate was just as important, drawing six walks, including two each from Quinn D. and Weston R.
The Mavericks stayed tough throughout, playing error-free defense and turning a double play in the field. Brendan S. led their lineup with two hits, while Garin L. was a defensive anchor with nine plays.
In the end, the Hurricanes’ sixth-inning rally and complete effort on both sides of the ball brought home the championship. More than just a title, the game reflected the Hurricanes’ ability to grow together, respond to adversity, and execute in high-pressure moments. For families, it’s the kind of performance that shows what’s possible when young athletes are surrounded by experienced coaching, consistent training, and a supportive, homegrown culture — the values Golden Spikes Baseball has proudly carried since 2010.
